SKYWARN is a nationwide program run by the National Weather Service that trains everyday volunteers to spot severe weather and report it to the professionals who issue warnings. By sharing timely details about storms, hail, strong winds, floods, and other hazardous conditions, SKYWARN volunteers help the NWS issue warnings more quickly—protecting lives and property.

Training teaches you how to recognize key weather features and how to report accurately, with sessions offered in New Hampshire through the Boston and Gray Forecast Offices. Whether you’re a weather enthusiast, a community volunteer, or someone looking to give back, becoming a SKYWARN spotter is a practical way to contribute to public safety. To get started, listen for training announcements on NOAA Weather Radio or contact your local forecast office for dates and locations.
